This community cat who is about 10 years old has always been found to be sniffling by her caregiver. During the rainy season at the end of 2011, her condition worsened and her caregiver discovered her with breathing problems and a lack of appetite. Her situation deteriorated to the point where she had to use her mouth to breathe.
Hitam was a very popular, tame and friendly community cat that lives near Jurong Point, and had often been petted by passersby. Its caregiver is an old man who earned a meagre living as a cobbler repairing shoes. Despite his personal financial difficulties, he fed Hitam daily and treated it like family.
An elderly caregiver found an abandoned, bony 1-month male kitten along Tembeling Road with a massive bulging right eyeball that has protruded to about 2.5 times the size of a normal eyeball. She began feeding him, but given her extreme financial situation, she was unable to take the kitten to the vet.
A community cat affectionately named Rio was found by a caregiver at Serangoon Ave 3 on 22 Dec 2011 with his hind right leg fractured. It was suspected that Rio was hit by a vehicle.
The caregiver rushed Rio to a nearby vet (Pet Clinic) where the vet proceeded to take his x-ray and blood test, as well as dress the wound.
A community cat in Ang Mo Kio was found with injuries on the front paw and had to support itself with only 3 legs. The caregiver found that the cat's claws have pierced into its flesh and became embedded there, hence causing pain when the cat put pressure on the paw.
